Vortex

Vortex is Cyberstrike’s HTTP traffic engine. It intercepts, stores, and analyzes HTTP requests flowing through the system — whether captured by HackBrowser, the Chrome Extension, or injected via the API.

What Vortex Does

CapabilityDescription
Traffic captureStores every HTTP request/response pair with full headers and body
DSL engineFilter and query traffic with a purpose-built expression language
Rule matchingApply rules-as-data (detect, canary, transform) against captured traffic
ReplayRe-send captured requests with modifications for testing
Signal correlationCross-reference findings across requests to detect chained vulnerabilities

DSL Queries

Vortex includes an expression engine for filtering HTTP traffic. Query by method, path, status, headers, body content, and more:

method == "POST" && path contains "/api/" && status >= 400
header["content-type"] contains "json" && body contains "token"

The DSL supports boolean logic, string matching, numeric comparison, and nested field access.

Rules

Vortex rules are declarative data — not code. Three rule shapes cover the common patterns:

ShapePurposeExample
DetectFlag traffic matching a patternSensitive data in response bodies
CanaryInject markers and watch for their reflectionSSRF, open redirect, header injection
TransformModify requests before replayStrip auth headers, swap parameter values

Rules can be loaded from built-in packs or defined per-project.

Integration with HackBrowser

When HackBrowser captures traffic, Vortex processes it automatically:

  1. Request arrives via POST /session/ingest
  2. Vortex stores the request and applies active rules
  3. Matched rules generate signals
  4. Signals feed into the proxy-agent’s analysis pipeline

Usage

Vortex runs as part of the Cyberstrike backend — no separate setup required. Traffic flows through it whenever you use HackBrowser, the Chrome Extension, or the WSTG pipeline.

Use /web in the TUI to inspect accumulated Vortex data: captured requests, matched rules, and generated signals. Related commands:

CommandWhat it shows
/webCaptured endpoints, roles, credentials
/vulnerabilitiesFindings from Vortex signals + WSTG testing
/methodologyCoverage and methodology status

Tip

Vortex is included in the free tier. The AI analysis layer (proxy-agent reasoning, signal correlation) is what makes it powerful — and that runs on your configured AI provider. See Web Pipeline for the full end-to-end assessment flow that Vortex powers.
